Functionally, this protein is known to be required during spermatogenesis and placenta development, participating in the repression of retrotransposable elements and prevent their mobilization. The canonical protein structure is reported to have an amino acid sequence of 164 residues and a mass of 18.5 kDa. It is known to be localized in the cytoplasm and is notably expressed in testis.
