Functionally, this protein is known to be involved in cell-matrix and cell-cell adhesion interactions that are required for normal development. The canonical protein structure is reported to have an amino acid sequence of 717 residues and a mass of 70 kDa. It is known to be localized in the cell membrane and is found to be widely expressed in both fetal and adult ocular tissues. As many as 11 protein isoforms have been reported.
