It is a member of the Class V-like SAM-binding methyltransferase superfamily and may be known by other names, including: histone H3-K9 methyltransferase 5, H3-K9-HMTase 5, G9a-like protein 1, EHMT1 intronic transcript 1, and histone-lysine N-methyltransferase EHMT1, and EHMT1-IT1.
