Functionally, this protein is known to be a transcriptional repressor which binds preferentially to the canonical E box sequence 5'-CACGTG-3'. The canonical protein structure is reported to have an amino acid length of 304 residues, a mass of 32.6 kDa, and is a member of the HEY protein family. It is known to be localized in the nucleus and is reported to be expressed in the somitic mesoderm, the central nervous system, the kidney, the heart, nasal epithelium, and limbs.
