Functionally, this protein is believed to regulate basal insulin secretion. The canonical protein structure is reported to have an amino acid length of 708 residues, a mass of 75.1 kDa, and is a member of the Immunoglobulin protein superfamily. It is known to be localized in the cell membrane and is reported to be highly expressed in beta-cells of the pancreatic islets. As many as 4 protein isoforms have been reported. The protein has been noted to be post-translationally N-glycosylated and cleaved.
