Serum amyloid A ELISA kits are assays designed to detect the family of proteins known as serum amyloid A (SAA). Produced primarily in the liver, SAA levels are elevated during acute-phase responses due to inflammation or infection. Production of SAA is stimulated by proinflammatory cytokines like TNF-α, IFN-γ and IL-6. It is also an apolipoprotein and plays a role in cholesterol metabolism. Three isoforms of SAA have been identified – SAA1, SAA2 and SAA3. SAA is associated with diseases such as Alzheimer’s, sarcoidosis, rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, atherosclerosis and cancer.
