It is known to be localized in the membrane, nucleus, and cytoplasm and is reported to be expressed in osteoclast and their mononuclear precursors. As many as 2 protein isoforms have been reported. The WDFY3 gene has been associated with the disease, Microcephaly. Other alias names for this target include BCHS, MCPH18, ZFYVE25, WD repeat and FYVE domain-containing protein 3, autophagy-linked FYVE protein, and ALFY.
