Hepcidin-25 ELISA kits are assays designed to detect hepcidin-25, an isoform of the iron homeostasis regulatory protein hepcidin. Hepcidin-25 is generated mainly in the liver through proteolytic cleavage of prohepcidin. Hepcidin-25 induces the internalization and degradation of the iron exporter ferroportin, resulting in increased intracellular iron storage and decreased levels of circulating iron. Its synthesis is induced by infection and inflammation. Hepsidin-25 has been associated with chronic kidney disease, hepatitis C and anemia.
