Anti-Phosducin antibodies are used for the immunodetection of the protein encoded by the PDC gene. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 246 amino acid residues and a mass of 28.2 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the nucleus and cytoplasm. Alternative splicing is reported to yield 3 different isoforms for this protein. A member of the Phosducin protein family, it is believed to participate in the regulation of visual phototransduction or in the integration of photoreceptor metabolism. Post-translational modifications have been described, including phosphorylation.
The phosducin marker can be used to characterize Eye Photoreceptor Cells.* Other names for this target antigen include PHD, PhLOP, PhLP, 33 kDa phototransducing protein, G beta gamma binding protein, and MEKA. Gene orthologs have been identified in the mouse, rat, bovine, frog, chimpanzee and chicken species. Western Blot is a widely used application for the Phosducin antibodies listed below. In addition, Immunohistochemistry is also a common application.
