Anti-NEC1 antibodies enable researchers to detect and measure the NEC1 antigen in biological samples. This target is a reported synonym of the PCSK1 gene, which encodes proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 1. This protein is known to function in cell to cell signaling and proteolysis, among other biological roles. The human version of NEC1 has a canonical amino acid length of 753 residues and a protein mass of 84.2 kilodaltons, although 2 isoforms have been identified. It is reported to be localized in the cytoplasmic vesicles of cells and notably expressed in the small intestine, pancreas, duodenum, cerebral cortex, and adrenal gland. Other names for this target antigen include BMIQ12 and PC1.
