Anti-AIS6 antibodies are used in antigen-specific immunodetection in biological samples. The target AIS6 is a known alias name of the protein sialic acid acetylesterase, encoded by the SIAE gene in humans. This 523-amino acid residue protein is known to catalyze the removal of O-acetyl ester groups from position 9 of the parent sialic acid, N-acetylneuraminic acid. It is localized to the lysosomes and is secreted of the cell and features glycosylated post-translational modifications. In terms of tissue expression, it is reported to be widely expressed with high expression in the testis, prostate, and colon. The term CSE-C is another synonym for AIS6.
