Anti-LOG5 antibodies are used in antigen-specific immunodetection in biological samples. The target LOG5 is a known alias name of the protein arachidonate 5-lipoxygenase, encoded by the ALOX5 gene in humans. This 674-amino acid residue protein is known to catalyze the oxygenation of arachidonate ((5Z,8Z,11Z,14Z)-eicosatetraenoate) to 5-hydroperoxyeicosatetraenoate (5-HPETE) followed by the dehydration to 5,6- epoxyeicosatetraenoate (Leukotriene A4/LTA4), the first two steps in the biosynthesis of leukotrienes, which are potent mediators of inflammation. It is localized to the membrane, nucleus, and cytoplasm of the cell and features phosphorylated post-translational modifications. It is reported to be expressed in many tissues, such as the caudate and cerebellum. Other synonyms for LOG5 include 5-LO, 5-LO, and 5-LOX. Western Blot is the most common application for the LOG5 antibodies listed below. ELISA and Immunohistochemistry are also common applications.
