Anti-EAAT2 antibodies detect the protein encoded by the gene SLC1A2, or 'solute carrier family 1 member 2' in humans. The 574-amino acid protein is a member of the Dicarboxylate/amino acid:cation symporter (DAACS) (TC2.A.23) family, SLC1A2 subfamily and the EAAT2 antigen is a documented astrocyte marker. The cellular localization is predicted to be membrane-associated. Glycosylation sites have been reported.
