Anti-nebulette antibodies are used in the immunodetection of the protein encoded by the NEBL gene. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 1014 amino acid residues and a mass of 116.5 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the cytoplasm. Alternative splicing is reported to yield 2 different isoforms for this protein. It is found to be highly expressed in cardiac muscle, but not in skeletal or smooth muscle. It is known to bind to actin and plays an important role in the assembly of the Z-disk. Other names for this target antigen include LASP2, LNEBL, bA165O3.1, LIM and SH3 protein 2, LIM-nebulette, actin-binding Z-disk protein, and C10orf113.
