Anti-Mediator of DNA damage checkpoint 1 antibodies are directed against the protein encoded by the gene MDC1 in humans. The gene may also be known as NFBD1, mediator of DNA damage checkpoint protein 1, and homologue to Drosophila photoreceptor protein calphotin. Structurally, the protein is reported to be 226.7 kilodaltons in mass. Based on gene name, canine, porcine, monkey, mouse and rat orthologs may also be found.
