Anti-ALDH8A1 antibodies are used in the immunodetection of the protein aldehyde dehydrogenase 8 family member A1. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 487 amino acid residues and a mass of 53.4 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the cytoplasm. Alternative splicing is reported to yield 4 different isoforms for this protein. It is reported to be highly expressed in adult kidney and liver. A member of a the Aldehyde dehydrogenase protein family, ALDH8A1 is known to catalyze the NAD-dependent oxidation of 2-aminomuconic semialdehyde of the kynurenine metabolic pathway in L-tryptophan degradation. Synonyms for this target antigen include aldehyde dehydrogenase 12, aldehyde dehydrogenase family protein, and 2-aminomuconic semialdehyde dehydrogenase.
