Anti-Bone Morphogenetic Protein 2 antibodies are used for the immunodetection of the protein encoded by the BMP2 gene. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 396 amino acid residues and a mass of 44.7 kDa. It is known to be a secreted protein. A member of the TGF-beta protein family, it is reported to be a growth factor of the TGF-beta superfamily that plays essential roles in many developmental processes, including cardiogenesis, neurogenesis, and osteogenesis. The gene encoding this protein is implicated in Brachydactyly. Other names for this target antigen include BMP2A, SSFSC, SSFSC1, bone morphogenetic protein 2A, and BDA2. Gene orthologs have been identified in the mouse, rat, bovine, frog, zebrafish, chimpanzee and chicken species. Over 270 citations in the literature describe the use of Bone Morphogenetic Protein 2 antibodies in research. Western Blot is a widely used application for these antibodies. ELISA, Immunofluorescence, and Immunohistochemistry are also common applications.
