Anti-UCP3 antibodies are used in the immunodetection of the protein uncoupling protein 3. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 312 amino acid residues and a mass of 34.2 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the mitochondria. Up to 3 different isoforms have been reported for this protein. It is notably expressed in the heart muscle and skeletal muscle. A member of the Mitochondrial carrier (TC 2.A.29) protein family, UCP3 is known to be involved with pathways of aging and fatty acid metabolism. Synonyms for this target antigen include putative mitochondrial transporter UCP3, mitochondrial uncoupling protein 3, solute carrier family 25 member 9, uncoupling protein 3 (mitochondrial, proton carrier), and SLC25A9. UCP3 gene orthologs have been reported in the mouse, rat, bovine, zebrafish and chimpanzee species. Over 100 citations in the literature describe the use of UCP3 antibodies in research. Western Blot is a widely used application for these antibodies. ELISA and Immunohistochemistry are also common applications.
