Anti-MTRFR antibodies are used in the immunodetection of the protein mitochondrial translation release factor in rescue. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 166 amino acid residues and a mass of 18.8 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the mitochondria. Up to 2 different isoforms have been reported for this protein. It is reported to be expressed in all areas of the brain tested. A member of the Prokaryotic/mitochondrial release factor protein family, mtrfr is reported to be part of a mitoribosome-associated quality control pathway that prevents aberrant translation by responding to interruptions during elongation. The MTRFR gene has been associated with the disease, Combined oxidative phosphorylation deficiency. Synonyms for this target antigen include probable peptide chain release factor C12orf65, mitochondrial. MTRFR gene orthologs have been reported in the mouse, rat, bovine, frog, zebrafish, chimpanzee and chicken species.
