Anti-SMC1 antibodies detect the protein encoded by the gene SMC1A, or 'structural maintenance of chromosomes 1A' in humans. The 1233-amino acid protein is a member of the SMC family, SMC1 subfamily. The cellular localization is predicted to be nuclear.
