Anti-NIX antibodies detect the protein encoded by the gene BNIP3L, or 'BCL2 interacting protein 3 like' in humans. The 219-amino acid protein is a member of the NIP3 family and antibodies to the NIX antigen may be useful for studying apoptosis. The cellular localization is predicted to be nuclear and mitochondrial.
