In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 133 amino acid residues and a mass of 14.7 kDa. It is known to be a secreted protein. A member of the Osteocrin protein family, it is a reported hormone that acts as a regulator of dendritic growth in the developing cerebral cortex in response to sensory experience.
