Anti-Ninein antibodies are used in the immunodetection of the protein encoded by the NIN gene. In humans, the canonical protein has a reported length of 2090 amino acid residues and a mass of 243.2 kDa. Its subcellular localization is in the cytoplasm. Alternative splicing is reported to yield 9 different isoforms for this protein. It is ubiquitously expressed across many tissue types. It is known to be a centrosomal protein required in the positioning and anchorage of the microtubule minus-end in epithelial cells. Post-translational modifications have been described, including phosphorylation. Other names for this target antigen include glycogen synthase kinase 3 beta-interacting protein, hNinein, ninein (GSK3B interacting protein), ninein centrosomal protein, and SCKL7.
