Anti-VAChT antibodies detect the protein encoded by the gene SLC18A3, or 'solute carrier family 18 member A3' in humans. The 532-amino acid protein is a member of the Major facilitator superfamily, Vesicular transporter family and antibodies to the VAChT antigen may be useful for studying neurotransmitter signaling. The cellular localization is predicted to be membrane-associated. Glycosylation sites have been reported.
