IPTG

IPTG IPTG (isopropyl-beta-D-thiogalactopyranoside) is a small molecule commonly used as an inducer of beta-galactosidase, an enzyme encoded by the gene lacZ. IPTG, an analog of the monosaccharide allolactose, inactivates the lac repressor, thereby stimulating transcription of genes downstream of the lac promoter. The compound has the formula C9H18O5S with a molar mass of 230.30 g/mol. The reagent appears as a white solid.
