We use a NeuN antibody as a marker for mature neurons in different brain regions of the mouse brain. The use of this antibody helps us distinguish neurons from glial cells (e.g., astrocytes and microglia) when verifying cell-specific AAV expression, thereby confirming the identity of the transduced cells.

Results Summary

The antibody allowed us to visualize mature neurons in hippocampal tissue. We used an astrocyte-specific AAV and to verify cell-specific expression, confirming transduction of astrocytes but not neurons, we visualized neurons to confirm the absence of AAV expression in neuronal cells.
