The study aimed to investigate the role of MEK in cell survival. To achieve this, smooth muscle cells were treated with thrombin in the presence and absence of PD98059, a MEK inhibitor. The treated cells were subsequently examined for apoptosis using a kit from Sigma-Aldrich. The results indicated that apoptosis increased when MEK was inhibited.
