We previously pharmacologically identified a small metabolite that regulates energy expenditure in mice. In this study, we want to explore if genetic manipulation of this metabolite via gene knockout of the synthase in mice results in metabolic dysfunctions. An important characterization is circulating lipids, especially cholesterol levels. We, therefore, use this kit to measure HDL and LDL/VLDL levels in mouse serum. This kit gives nice standard curves and absolute quantifications of circulating cholesterol.

Using this kit, we found that genetic deficiency of a metabolite of interest results in decreased HDL to LDL/VLDL ratio, suggesting dysregulated lipid metabolism.
