In our experimental model vascular smooth muscle cells play a pivotal role in Ang II-induced vascular changes, including vascular remodeling. a-SMA has been used not only as a differentiation marker but also as a functional marker for myofibroblasts. In our experiments on mice heart and lung tissues, both immunostaining, this a-SMA signal works very well.
