Company:

Thermo Fisher Scientific

Product Name:

Pierce™ BCA Protein Assay Kit

Catalog Number:

23227

I regularly use this protein assay kit for most of the experiments for western blotting, protein normalization across the assay, and proteomics samples. Have a good linear range for protein estimation in the test samples from 20 µg/mL to 2000 µg/mL. The kit also contains the stock vials of 2 mg/ml BSA.

Experimental Design and Results Summary

Application

Protein estimation

Starting Material

Cell lysates, tissue lysates and cell supernatant

Tips

Dilute the stock BSA for the standard curve in the same buffer in which you have your test samples.

Results Summary

Gradient purple color observed in the BSA standard samples and differential in test samples showing different protein concentrations in the test samples. After taking absorbance at 562 nm in the spectrophotometer, I observed a linear BSA standard curve with r2=0.997 and a good concentration of proteins in the test samples.

Summary

The Good

BSA stock 2 mg/ml is given with the kit.

The Bad

Not compatible for samples with peptides with less than 2000 Da.

The Bottom Line

Excellent product to use for the protein estimation for your daily research related to proteins.
