I make free floating sections for my immunohistochemsitry samples. And a sliding microtome makes your life so much more easier. You can make sections from 4 brains at the same time within 10 minutes (requires practice, of course!). There is also an automatic sectioning option, but I haven't tried it yet. The only problem and longer step is fixing the stage on the microtome. You can keep track of the section count, step sum and remaining travel. You can easily move between feed and trim in just a click. I use a paint brush to remove the sections off of the knife. It is fast AND easy.
