Product Name:

Spectrafuge 16M

Catalog Number:

C0160

This is a good standard microcentrifuge that is fairly cheap. Control knobs are kind of outdated and the speed can only be set in RPM. 1.5 mL rotor will not hold other tubes of similar size, including 2 mL tubes and certain spin columns.

Experimental Design and Results Summary

Application

Microcentrifugation

Protocol Overview

Load tubes in rotor so they are balanced. Place cap on and close lid. Use control knob to set speed in RPM and start spin by turning the control dial to the desired time or to "hold." There is also a quick spin button.

Tips

Make sure the tubes will fit in the rotor. If the tubes are tight going in, they will be difficult to remove after spinning.

Summary

The Good

Basic microcentrifuge, can hold different rotors (sold separately) for different sized tubes

The Bad

1.5 mL rotor is only specific for 1.5 mL tubes, not super quiet, has control knob/dial instead of digital display

The Bottom Line

This is a good standard microcentrifuge that is fairly cheap. Control knobs are kind of outdated and the speed can only be set in RPM. 1.5 mL rotor will not hold other tubes of similar size, including 2mL tubes and certain spin columns (ours would not hold the Qiagen RNeasy mini columns).
