The general area of research is in immunology. This product is ideal for those making a lot of monoclonal antibodies. It is especially designed for hybridoma supernatants and purified monoclonal antibodies. While best used to test the isotype of a single antibody, I have also used Antagen's test strips to determine the relative distribution of the main isotypes in a sample of ascites fluid. The strips can test IgG1,IgG2a, IgG2b and IgG3, κ, λ, IgA and IgM. While ELISA can be used to test antibody isoptype, my lab switched to using Antagen's test strips because it speeds up the process by many folds. These kits are also relatively inexpensive ($15) as similar strips from other companies can cost over $30+ test. They also have worked on every antibody I have tested. Antagen also has a wide distribution of different Antibody test strips on antagen.net based on how many different isotypes you want to test for. For example, the ISO-M8Ac tests for IgG1, IgG2a, IgG2b, IgG2c, IgG3, IgM, κ and λ.

Protocol Overview

From the protocol found on antagen.net:1) Place the cassettes in horizontal plane.2) Add 80-100 µL antibody solution directly to theSample Well. Wait for 5 minutes.3) A red test line at the location corresponding toantibody-specific isotype and a red control line at“C’ position will appear within 1-5 minutes.

Tips

Antagen has various types of isotyping strips: including the ISO-M8c, ISO-M8ac (described above), ISO-M8a, and ISO-M6. Choose the one that fits your needs in the specificity you want to test.

Summary

The Good

Antagen's test strips work much faster than running an ELISA which will take hours of work and 24 hours to get results. This test works in 5 minutes. It is also the most competitive strip in the market.

The Bad

None. It is very easy to use.

The Bottom Line

Antagen offered our lab a discount for being a university laboratory. Definitely inquire about that. Its test strips are least expensive in the market and work every time I have used them. They speed up antibody isotyping from 24+ hours to 5 minutes.
