Product Name:

Enhanced Apoptotic DNA Ladder Detection Kit

Catalog Number:

K130

We are looking for apoptosis in ex vivo murine lung cells, and we used this kit to determine if some of our treatment groups contained apoptotic cells. We chose this product because it is quick, easy, and we trust BioVision products.

Experimental Design and Results Summary

Application

Cell death - apoptosis detection

Starting Material

Ex vivo murine BAL cells

Protocol Overview

Pellet, wash, and lyse cells. Then incubate with Enzyme B, precipitate DNA using ammonium acetate & isopropanol, wash DNA in ethanol, and finally resuspend in the provided suspension buffer prior to running on an agarose gel.

Tips

The protocol has an optional incubation as a part of the lysis step - you can optimize this according to the level of DNase in your sample.

Results Summary

This product generate clear apoptotic bands (~200bp increments) in our apoptotic control sample. Samples without apoptosis simply generate a DNA smear.

Summary

The Good

Fast, easy, gave clear results

The Bad

Aside from the optional incubation in the lysis step, there isn't much room for optimization

The Bottom Line

A great product. Quick, easy, sensitive, gives clear results. There isn't much room for optimization in the kit protocol, but the product works so well you likely will not need to optimize.
