DC Protein Assay Kit I

Catalog Number:

5000111

The DC Protein Assay from BioRad is a colorimetric assay used for determining protein sample concentrations. The kit includes needed reagents, along with BSA standards. It can be used for quantifying protein concentrations in a test tube format or microplate format.

Experimental Design and Results Summary

Application

Protein Assay

Starting Material

MIA PaCa-2 pancreatic tumor cell lysates

Protocol Overview

BSA standards are loaded into microplate in a range of dilutions of your choice between 0.2 and 1.5 ug/uL. Your protein sample is then loaded into the plate. Reagents A, S, and B are added to the wells, followed by an incubation time of 15 minutes. The plate can then be read at 750 nm absorbance in a microplate reader.

Tips

The assay is very sensitive, so be sure that proper pipetting of standards and samples is performed.

Results Summary

The assay produces a standard curve, along with absorbance readings that are then used to determine protein concentrations.

Summary

The Good

The assay is very easy to setup, has a quick incubation time, and the absorbance readings are stable for up to an hour.

The Bad

The assay is not very forgiving.

The Bottom Line

This is a very simple, straight-forward protein assay that can give you protein concentrations very quickly. It is compatible with small sample sizes and a variety of buffers that your sample might contain.
