While characterizing myeloid cell populations isolated or generated from bone marrow or peripheral blood, it is important to verify the purity of leukocyte populations. This could be accomplished by the use of anti-CD11b antibody, which recognizes the common antigen expressed on myeloid cells such as monocytes, macrophages and neutrophils. We used the detection of CD11b to prove the myeloid lineage of isolated tumor-associated murine macrophages. The FITC-conjugated rat anti-mouse CD11 banti-CD11b antibody from BD Pharmingen was used to verify myeloid origin of murine macrophages isolated from primary tumors.
