Goldenrod Animal Lancet
Goldenrod 5mm
We wanted to collect multiple blood samples quickly and safely in one day, without causing harm to the animals (mice). I used these lancets to collect small amounts of blood (200ul) from the cheek of mice without using anesthesia. We used these lancets as opposed to eye bleeding because we wanted to avoid blindness in our mice and the use of multiple doses of anesthesia in one day. Our end goal is to determine the levels of a specific antibody in the blood and it's affect on paralysis.
Blood Collection for ELISA
Mice and Lancet
With the mouse secured in one hand. The lancet was used to quickly inject the submandibular located at the rear of the jaw bone. The blood serum was then collected and processed for ELISA
Be sure not to strangle the mice when holding them. Ensure that they are breathing before using the lancet.
We were able to collect enough blood serum from each mouse twice a day in order to measure protein levels by ELISA.
