Albumin is a protein synthesized in the liver. It is one of the most abundant proteins in your blood. Albumin also carries vital nutrients and hormones, and provides the proteins it needs to maintain growth and repair tissue. A serum albumin test measures the amount of albumin in the blood. Abnormal serum albumin levels may indicate functional assessment of kidneys or liver.
