Apex Taq RED Master Mix
42-138
We started using the Apex Taq RED Master Mix as a cheaper alternative to the Sigma RedTaq Ready Mix. Although we still use the Sigma Extraction Kit to prepare our DNA, the Apex kit is able to genotype our DNA very well.

Mouse DNA
The RED mix comes in a 2X solution, meaning that half of the reaction volume is comprised of the RED mix. We mix 0.2uL primers, 5.2uL water, 10uL RED mix, and 4uL DNA (extracted from Sigma kit) to our reactions.
Protocol given with mix suggests the total reaction volume to be 50uL. We found that cutting the total volume to 20uL does not change result quality, but does increase the amount of samples we can genotype from each kit.
Generates PCR bands depending on user-added primers.

I have found other Taq mixes that are more sensitive.
This is a good solid kit, and I use it frequently. Given the price, it is a better buy than some on the market.
