Company:

Thermo Fisher

Product Name:

GeneRuler 100bp DNA ladder

Catalog Number:

SM0242

Our institute prefers using Qiagen GelPilot DNA ladders for general PCR work. However, their products are so expensive, costing nearly 150 dollars for 100 lanes. I tested fisher's GeneRuler ladders and found they gave me very good quality size bands. The price is amazing! It only cost 44 dollars/100 lanes. Our lab will switch to Fisher's GeneRuler from now on.

Experimental Design and Results Summary

Application

DNA size discrimination

Starting Material

PCR product, 1-1.5% agarose gel

Protocol Overview

The ladder is very easy to use. The recommended volume is 6uL; however, we use 2.5uL per lanes and still get nice, sharp, bright bands.

Tips

Use half the suggested amount and you can run an extra 100 lanes for savings.

Results Summary

Nice and discreet bands covering 100-1000bp. They also provide 1kb system for use. In the image, PCR products are 350 and 550bp. The brightest band is 500bp, similar to Qiagen GelPilot.
