Quantitative RT-PCR is now a mainstay of many laboratories, providing rapid, accurate and sensitive measurement of mRNA expression. Commonly, this is now performed in high-throughput format, utilizing 96- or 384-well RT-PCR plates. In order to achieve reproducible results, it is important that following the pipetting of reagents into the plate, the plate is then centrifuged to ensure all of the sample is contained within the bottom of the well and also to remove any air bubbles that may have formed. This usually involves large benchtop centrifuges that take up a lot of space and cannot be easily moved around the laboratory to suit where they are required. The Benchtop PCR plate centrifuge from Labnet provides an alternative, compact solution that can be placed alongside the PCR machine and conveniently moved around the laboratory. This is a convenient and compact benchtop centrifuge for PCR plates.

Experimental Design and Results Summary

Application

For spinning PCR plates prior to PCR

Starting Material

96 or 384 well PCR plates

Protocol Overview

This mini benchtop centrifuge can be used to spin 2 plates at a time. The centrifuge is simple to use and designed to remove droplets or condensation prior to PCR.

Tips

An empty PCR plate can be used as a balance.

Results Summary

The centrifuge effectively removes droplets caused by pipetting as well as condensation to the optical plate cover when the plate has been stored at refrigerated temperatures. The plate usually just requires three 20 second pulses.

Features Summary

Very compact machine

Summary

The Good

Compact and effective

The Bad

Cannot be used for longer or very high speed centrifugation

The Bottom Line

Efficient machine for simple certification of PCR plates prior to PCR. Great value for money and small enough to fit on the benchtop as part of a PCR station.
