Company:

New England BioLabs

Product Name:

Quick-Load Purple 2-Log DNA Ladder

Catalog Number:

N0550G

We run a lot of 1-2% agarose gels to test the size of our sample DNA, especially PCR products. We have used several types of ladders in the past, but this one gives an amazing range (in size) and very good quality bands on the 1% gel. Initially, it was sent to us as a sample, but we were very impressed with the results; we will switch to it from now on.

Experimental Design and Results Summary

Application

DNA size determination

Starting Material

1% agarose gel

Protocol Overview

The ladder is easy to use. It has a nice purple color which makes it easy to see running on the gel. The recommended volume is 10uL; however, we use 5uL and still get nice, sharp, bright bands (see photo).

Tips

Use 5uL per lane to save up!

Results Summary

Nice, discreet bands can be seen across a wide range (0.1-10Kb). In the image, we show the following bands (from top to bottom for the ladder on the left): 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.5, 1.2, 1, 0.9, 0.8, 0.7, 0.6, 0.5, 0.4, 0.3, 0.2 and 0.1 kilobases). The smaller ladder on the right is from another company (for comparison). PCR products shown are 86 and 121 bp (from left to right).
