Bench-Top Coolers

A bench top cooler is used to keep samples, enzymes, or reagents cold. Bench top coolers can be used in any type of laboratory that needs to keep its chemicals and samples cold, including those that work with DNA for genomics and PCR. There are two basic types of bench top coolers, those that are insulated boxes that maintain a temperature for a limited time and those that are electric and maintain a temperature for as long as the are connected to a power source. Decide before buying a bench top cooler whether you need the temperature to be maintained for a short time or maintained indefinitely, so that you know if you need the electric type or not. Other features that should be looked into are what type and how many containers the cooler can hold and the temperature range it has.
