Central to microbiology and molecular biology applications are various types of media for culturing bacteria. High-quality bacterial culture media are available ready-to-use, eliminating time-consuming preparation. Among these are LB medium and its solidified counterpart LB agar, which are widely used for growing recombinant E. coli as well as other microbial strains. SOC Medium (Super Optimal broth with Catabolite repression), is a nutritionally rich bacterial culture medium typically used in transforming competent cells. Terrific Broth (TB) contains four times the amount of yeast extract than the standard LB media, which is ideal for culturing large amounts of bacteria. Specialty media for specific organisms may also be available.
