The overall survival of the patients was predicted using an artificial neural network using the histochemical data of the tissue samples. The network confirmed that the most relevant markers were PTX3 and IL10, which characterized the immune regulatory M2c-like macrophages. A conventional survival analysis using the Kaplan–Meier with log-rank test confirmed the association of high M2c-like macrophages with poor overall and progression-free survival of the patients.
