ROPN1L encodes a sperm protein of the ropporin family, which interacts with Protein Kinase A to regulate glycogen, sugar, and lipid metabolism. Alternatively spliced transcript variants of ROPN1L have been found. Ropporin is expressed exclusively in the testis and specifically in germ cells at the late stage of spermatogenesis.
