In vivo fluorescent and bioluminescent imaging has proven to be a powerful tool for studying biological processes, disease progression, and therapeutic response in live animal models.

But while such systems have accelerated the development of novel diagnostics and treatments, the cost to buy, operate, and maintain high-performing imaging instrumentation often forces smaller labs to look for alternative arrangements and/or go without altogether. VISQUE InVivo Smart-LF, from imaging expert Vieworks, promises to accelerate preclinical research by expanding the number of researchers and clinicians who have access to world-class optical and image processing technology.

At just 57 cm x 40 cm and under 50 lbs, Smart-LF is the most compact in vivo fluorescent and bioluminescent imaging and analysis system in Vieworks’ VISQUE InVivo Series, and costs considerably less than comparable instruments. Like all VISQUE® InVivo Series machines, Smart-LF uses a high-sensitivity sCMOS camera with thermoelectric cooling technology to ensure image quality—even in low light. Quantum efficiency exceeds 85% at 450–700 nm, and more than 30% at 300–950 nm. High-speed image acquisition captures up to 37 frames per second, ensuring labs have the spatial distribution and morphology data they need to advance their research.

VISQUE InVivo Smart-LF is also user friendly, with an intuitive interface and easy-to-use software. Its simplified imaging process reduces the need for extensive training or technical expertise, and Smart-LF’s software comes with algorithms optimized for pharmacokinetics and biodistribution, allowing users to analyze and quantify results with ease.

Smart-LF is also versatile, with applications spanning histology, pathology, and research imaging. The instrument is appropriate for visualizing biological samples such as cell cultures, tissue sections, and small animal specimens.

Although Smart-LF is equipped with advanced features, it is its competitive price point that sets it apart from other in vivo systems and represents a significant step forward in democratizing access to advanced imaging technology. By breaking down barriers and expanding access to state-of-the-art imaging capabilities, Smart-LF has the potential to accelerate preclinical innovation and discovery.
