Western blot is a staple analytical tool for any modern and well-equipped biomedical or clinical lab, but the method is burdened by lengthy, hands-on protocols that monopolize operator bandwidth. Errors can also creep in at any one of Western blot’s many steps, making reproducible results elusive.
Cytoskeleton’s new GO-Blot V2—a next-generation automated Western plot processor—addresses these challenges. After collecting input from hundreds of researchers who regularly use Western blotting in their labs, Cytoskeleton thoughtfully designed the GO-Blot V2 to be flexible and easy-to-use, deliver reproducible results, and reduce hands-on time by upwards of 3 hours a day. Not only are “ugly blots” and wasted samples eliminated, but high-level researchers normally stuck washing, mixing, and pipetting can be deployed to more value-added tasks.
GO-Blot V2’s three-tray design boosts flexibility, while a simplified cleaning process and improved user interface delivers both ease-of-use and reduced consumables waste. Just a short, 11-minute wash to ensure previous antibody has been flushed from the system is required to prevent non-specific staining.
Operators can then choose from ten pre-defined protocols or use the new phone interface to create their own protocol. Three tray sizes and nearly infinite protocol combinations ensure the GO-Blot V2 can be applied to any protein study. Primary and secondary antibodies can be loaded quickly, and the machine comes equipped with a reliable fluid delivery device for reproducibly probing blots and membranes. The GO-Blot V2 even makes it easy to recycle your primary antibody.
GO-Blot V2’s valves, pumps, motorized tilting platform, and control board coordinates timing with the application of the correct solution to the membrane or blot and ensures detection reagents are thoroughly mixed and applied evenly. Compatible with all commonly used buffers, the instrument operates at room temperature and in cold rooms with available modifications from Cytoskeleton.
Run progress can be conveniently monitored outside the lab on a smart phone, while user accounts at mygoblot.com store results for easy distribution to the user’s lab or other interested researchers worldwide. The Global Western Portal™ also provides a growing community of researchers who share their successful protocol/antibody combinations.
GO-Blot V2’s design is compact, modular, and economical (running at just 2 watts). Labs can operate multiple machines simultaneously, with runs from multiple users with different routines and antibodies. Perhaps best of all, a low price point means the GO-Blot V2 quickly pays for itself by freeing up personnel, reducing waste, and eliminating unusable assays.
