Fuchsine, also commonly known as fuchsin, is a magenta dye used in microbiology, histology, and cytology for staining acid-fast bacteria, fungi, and connective tissues. It is a key component in staining protocols like the Ziehl-Neelsen stain and the PAS (Periodic Acid-Schiff) stain for polysaccharides. Fuchsine is also used as a counterstain in Gram staining and as a component in the Schiff test for detecting aldehydes in tissues. There are two major variants, acid fuchsine and basic fuchsine, in which the former binds to positively charged structures and the latter binds to negatively charged components. When choosing this reagent from different suppliers, consider factors such as purity, grade, and recommendations for specific applications. Visit the supplier datasheet page for more details, including quantity, format, and ordering information.
