The THP1 cell line (also known as THP-1) is an immortalized human cell line widely used as a model for investigating monocyte/macrophage functions, signaling pathways, and nutrient/drug transport. Derived from the peripheral blood of a child patient with acute monocytic leukemia, THP1 cells generally exhibit a distinct morphology of large, round, single cells. THP-1 cells can polarize into M1 or M2 macrophage phenotypes based on incubation conditions, and they differentiate into immature and mature dendritic cells in response to specific stimuli. THP-1 cells are non-adherent, can be continuously cultured in suspension with specific media, and have an average doubling time ranging from 19 to 50 hours. Recombinant THP1 cells with genetic modifications, such as reporter gene expression, have also been generated for research use. Visit the cell supplier page for more information.
